Diagnosis guide · PC / Laptop

Windows won’t start. What should you do next?

A computer that cannot reach the desktop is not automatically beyond repair. The point where it stops, the error and what happened beforehand help narrow the next step.

General guidance, not a diagnosis of your device. Possible causes below need assessment before a repair decision.

Describe what you actually see

A manufacturer logo, Windows loading screen, repair loop and completely blank display are different observations. Record the exact message, whether it repeats and any recent update or software change. A photo can help, but hide names, email addresses and other private information before sharing it.

Protect your options before a reset

Microsoft warns that some recovery methods can remove data. Resetting, reinstalling and less disruptive recovery options are not interchangeable. If important files are not backed up, explain that before authorising work. Do not assume a “keep files” label protects every application, setting or piece of data you need.

Why the recent history matters

A problem starting after an update is useful information, but timing alone does not establish the cause. Windows files, drivers and the underlying device can all need investigation. Reinstalling software may not resolve an unrelated hardware fault. That is why the recovery choice should follow the assessment.

What TechSav can help with

We offer Windows troubleshooting, ordinary recovery options and agreed reinstallation, plus essential setup. Windows reinstall and essential setup is £70, with a genuine licence extra if required. Data transfer or additional work is discussed separately. Specialist data recovery is outside our scope and file recovery cannot be guaranteed.

What to have ready

Send the model, exact error, recent changes and backup status. If encryption is involved, keep your recovery information privately available for an agreed access arrangement. Never send recovery keys or passwords in an enquiry. TechSav will explain the proposed method and its data implications before work begins.
