Diagnosis guide · PC / Laptop

PC turns on, but there’s no display?

The power light is on, the fans are moving, but the screen stays blank. That is an observation to investigate, not proof that the motherboard or graphics card is dead.

General guidance, not a diagnosis of your device. Possible causes below need assessment before a repair decision.

Separate no picture from no startup

Does the monitor say “no signal”? Do you see a logo and then lose the picture, or is it blank from the moment you switch on? Is there a cursor? These details help distinguish the display connection from a problem that appears later during Windows startup.

What could be involved?

Microsoft’s blank-screen guidance includes display connections, output configuration and driver-related problems. On a particular machine there may also be a hardware issue requiring inspection. We cannot identify a failed part simply because a fan spins or a power light comes on.

A useful description beats a guess

Tell us which screen and connection you use and whether anything was moved or changed. For a new build, share the exact parts list and what happened on the first startup. Avoid repeated component swapping before documenting the original behaviour; it can make the starting point harder to establish.

What TechSav can do

TechSav can assess PCs and laptops, check the relevant connections and startup behaviour, and investigate suitable Windows or hardware setup issues. A £25 workshop diagnostic assessment is available for drop-off or collected devices. It is deducted from the final labour charge when you approve the quoted repair; collection is separate.

Where the service stops

Board-level repair and microsoldering are not offered. If the finding points outside our scope, we explain that before further work. Laptop screen replacement is not a current advertised service. The aim is an informed repair decision, not a list of speculative parts to buy.
